Sharing some sad news…

It’s Susan Ham here with a sad heart. I learned over the weekend that Jeannie’s high school-aged son, Diego, has died.

Please take a moment to say a prayer, or a moment of silence, for the family. I hope he is in peace. We’re sending you lots of love and hugs, Jeannie.

The Tucson High “Class of ‘81” has sent a sympathy card and made a donation for a scholarship fund at Salpointe established by the family.

Please send me an email if you wish for more information. Laurie has been keeping me updated by email. I just learned Malena will be attending the funeral.

It’ll be another few weeks before I go “live” with www.tucsonhigh1981.com. And also in the works is uploading pictures from our photographer so everyone can order, setting up a "group photo sharing site", plus we’re putting together some multimedia video packets. I hope everyone had as much of a good time as I did!

30th REUNION HAPPY HOUR is this Friday, June 10^th at Maloney’s on 4^th Avenue. It starts at 5 pm, cost is $15. Exact cash appreciated. Looks like we’re going to have a good amount of grads from various years!

A reminder -- the Dinner Dance has been closed since May 27^th. There is NO CHANCE for anyone new to join us.

Almost there!

With the festivities less than 10 days away, it's now too late to get in on the dinner. Starr Pass had to have their numbers and money early, and that was all wrapped up as of yesterday.
But, if you still want to come to Happy Hour, please do, and invite all Badgers...all years are welcome.
Happy Hour at Maloney's Tavern starts at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, June 10. The dinner at Starr Pass starts with a cocktail hour at 6:00 p.m. the following evening, dinner at 7:00, and we have the facilities (with a DJ) until 11:00 that night.
Any other questions you might have should be answered by looking through earlier posts here, or on the Facebook "Classmates" page.
Malena, Susan and I are really looking forward to seeing everyone, and being able to enjoy the fruits of our labors. It has been a lot of work, but we know it'll be worth it!

As of Friday, May 27th, we have to close off any more dinner guests. Those of you who have already made arrangements with Laurie about payment/attending, you're okay.

PARTY ANIMALS: We'll figure it out!

The attire for the dinner is "dinner party" so whatever you feel comfortable and special in. The menu is Mediterranean inspired. If we don’t get a dinner choice from you, we’re picking Chicken for you.

The vibe will be grown up/lounge-like. Think LA-style
dress-up cocktail poolside party without the pool (or mega event budget with celebs LOL). We'll have a terrace and room with a view instead.

JW Marriott Starr Pass GROUP RATE discount deadline has passed, but I bet they will still honor the $112 ($126.62 with tax) per night. Call Marriott group reservations at 800-266-9432 and mention “Tucson High 1981"

Times!!

Oops, in case you missed the times for the events, the happy hour starts at 5:00 at Maloney's on Friday, June 10. We will be staking out plenty of space, get there when you can, and remember that you can pay for that at the door.

On Saturday, June 11, we will have cocktail hour from 6:00 to 7:00, and then move on to dinner. Starr Pass will not kick us out of there until 11:00, so plenty of time to schmooze and booze--if you need to party on after that...get a room! :)

Dinner Payment Deadline
Laurie has set a NEW deadline of May 31st. Laurie’s on the East Coast and she has to pay the Marriott on that date. Plus, she’ll be enroute to Tucson and won’t be able to process payments once she hits Arizona soil. If you really want to come and need to work something out then please email Laurie via this blog.

Tucson High Class of 1981 – We’re on Facebook!

Me again, Susan Ham. We have a Facebook page for our class now.

Not much news this week because Malena, Laurie and I are BUSY working on the reunion. Yes, we have “Reunion Fatique”…but we want it to be nice even if it’s a small gathering. What’s not to like about beautiful new resort and a “room with a view”?

Now’s the time to say -- if you’ve been thinking about coming, then please send in a payment as we’re finalizing reunion plans and need to know who’s coming.

Sure you’re thinking we’re more than a month out, but trust me…there’s lots to do when it’s only three of us.

than our time there? Remember “Special Projects” and AP classes? Anyhow, if you look closely I think the theater is still in the lower level of the Main Building, and the Chemistry Lab seems to look the same?

Tucson High Class of 1981 – What do you remember from Senior Year?

Susan Ham here – can you believe it’s less than two months until our 30^th reunion?

Yikes…some of us may not have seen each other for 30 years?! Will we recognize each other? I’m still short and I think I’m shrinking too?

Feels like I’m reliving high school now in fashion…the '70s and '80s are back with high-waisted flare pants, maxi dresses, wedge sandals and loud colors. Love, love, love!

Susan Ham here…as I respect everyone’s privacy I can only report we have 24 confirmed/paid. We’re coming up on the needing to plunk down the rest of the deposit to pull off this reunion as originally planned, and quite frankly…that’s not enough to meet our goal of 50 paid attendees. EEK!

I realize times are tough (really I do).

If you plan on attending we not only need an RSVP at this time, BUT a payment as well.

Searching for Tucson High Class of '81 Grads

Tucson High Class of 1981 – Where oh where are you?

Susan Ham again to ask where the heck is our dinky class? Yes, I think it was small.

I counted 272 in the senior yearbook (my math could be off due to needing new glasses, boy the print is teenie tiny, LIKE 8-point size).

Remember the English teacher Mrs. Carter? She hated us using the the word “like” and I rarely do, by the way (because of Mrs. Carter).

I realize we had Special Projects students, Air Force kids, children of U of A professors and dropouts, but I’d thought we’d find more given the internet. Hmm…we have very few on Facebook

THS Class of 1981 Thirty Year Reunion

Hey, all--sorry I have been negligent about posting here. Time flies, whether you are having fun or not! Well, I have been having maybe a little fun, hope all of you have, too.
We're still hoping for those of you on FB who do get regular updates to let us know of people who aren't on there, and to provide their contact information. Not much luck so far. We have Susan Ham looking for people, but she can't do it all on her own.
Does anyone know how we can get the word out through some type of advertising in Tucson, for FREE? As that is the limit of our budget at the moment. Are there any radio stations that do that type of thing. If so, let us know, please! Or, instead of letting us know, feel free to go ahead and get the info out there on the airwaves, or wherever...we can use all the help we can get.
Please keep the checks coming--Malena has posted that rates will go up as of March 15, so save and get them in now, and we'll all be good to go.
If you're on the fence about whether to come or not, just COME! If you're worried that you've gained too much weight, or lost too much hair, or you're thinking you're not where you "should" be in life, guess what?? No one is going to think about those things--we all just want to get together and have a good time. Or, on the other hand, if you think that your awesomeness will just make the rest of us feel bad--it won't, trust me. :) Just get your pushing-50 butts signed up, and let's have a good time. Scratch that, let's have a GREAT time.
I'm planning on it.
